Special Recognition

It actually had even more blooms than the judges counted!

Congratulations Robin Collins!

Robin took the massive Cymbidium for AOS judging and received a CCE of 95 for this historic plant — Cymbidium Alexanderi 'Westonbirt', first awarded in England in 1922!

Joe Francis — AOS Special Recognition

Joe Francis, one of our longtime members, received a special recognition from AOS. He is a big supporter of our society and mentor for many members. Although he is not able to join our meetings anymore, he continues to support us!

May 2026 Meeting Notes

The meeting was called to order by President Harmon, who welcomed everyone and commented on all the new faces. Our show was a huge success — nearly 1,000 people attended! Many thanks to all who worked tirelessly. We had approximately 135 plants in our displays including quite a few things you don't normally see.

Speaker

Art Chadwick from Chadwick and Son Orchids (Powhatan, VA) gave an entertaining talk about the history of Cattleya orchids and his father's program to name plants and present them to First Ladies. He also brought a nice assortment of plants for purchase so every was able to get their "orchid fix".

Approximately 40 members in attendance.
